My Story

Hi, I'm Danielle (or Dani),  the heart behind Sugar Loft (formerly Cakes and Sweets by Danielle). What started as a love for spreading joy with my baked goods has turned into a full time career of crafting bakery style cookies, bars, cake pops, parfaits, and sweet breads for my little business! 

My love for baking started over 20 years ago! I was having fun experimenting with different cookie recipes! I could express my creative energy and also share my creations with family and friends! It was a way for me to connect with others, and there was something exciting about creating treats that brightened someone's day! With time, my passion for baking grew as did my desire to expand my skills! I took cake decorating classes and started getting requests for custom cake creations! I started getting more and more requests just by word of mouth in the community. Soon I was baking and decorating multiple cakes and cake pops a week in my home kitchen. 

 Fast forward to 2021 when a dear friend encouraged me to sell some of my sweet treats at a craft fair that she was hosting. My mom was going to be selling her crafts at this event, so I thought "why not?" She was gracious enough to share her tent with me. It rained all weekend of course, but my love for connecting with others and creating joy with my sweet treats blossomed! After that weekend I started selling my sweets at more and more craft fairs and then festivals and farmers markets! My little business was growing, especially my line of huge bakery style cookies! At the same time I was still baking and decorating custom cakes from my home kitchen! Life was great and I was feeling very blessed!

May 1st, 2023 my life changed unexpectedly. I suffered a left-sided Ischemic Stroke. Thankfully I recovered very well with only a few lasting effects. A couple of those pesky lasting effects include small motor and vision difficulties which makes doing certain things, like decorating a detailed custom cake a bit difficult. I truly believe everything happens the way it's meant to, and it was no coincidence that my little brand of big cookies had started to thrive the same year as my stroke. How lucky could I get? I saw no other way then to fully embrace the support my small, humble cookie business was getting! So that's exactly what I did! I'm so thankful to still be doing what I love...baking and spreading joy! Decorating custom cakes may happen again, but for now I am blessed to be able to focus on COOKIES!

Today I can say that my humble baking business has come full circle! I am proud to be creating my line of BIG bakery style cookies and other sweet treats! Whether you're here for a classic cookie, an over-the-top stuffed cookie, or a custom dessert tray for a special event, I'm so thankful you've found my business! Every bite is made with a little bit of sugar and a lot of love and I hope my creations bring as much joy to your life as they do mine!
